Over
the weekend, Gator's baseball coach gathered the boys after a tough loss and
told them the truth about "losing".
Losing
a game is tough. Losing stinks. There isn't one part of it that is fun.
However,
it is in the "losses" that we learn the most.
AND it
is in the "losses" that we discover just how very sweet it really is
when we win!
He went
on to tell the boys that if they weren't happy with their performance that
Sunday, then they had a choice:
*They can simply come to our once-a-week
practice and stay average....
OR
*They can pick up their bat and ball
throughout the week at home and practice on their own so they can get better
and better.
He told
them that how Great they become at anything in their lives is solely determined
by how much effort THEY themselves put into it.
Gator
came home from school. Plunked his backpack down. Went straight to the batting
cage and began hitting balls off of a tee....until Sum discovered him out
there. Then without a word, she helped him gather the baseballs, perched
herself behind the little protective fence and started feeding him the balls.
I was
consumed with pride and happiness in that moment. ...So, I took a quick
picture.
*Thank
God for great coaches who realize that the life lessons, through their chosen
sport, is just as important to our kid's lives as winning a ballgame. :)
**This is the good stuff. ;-)
